Why You Should Train Staff to Conduct Interviews

Aside from one very practical reason to train those who will be involved in any interview process—to avoid unlawful and possibly discriminatory questions—there are other important reasons to provide this type of training.

These include:

  • The importance of the candidate experience, including being respectful of candidates' time.

  • The types of questions the should be asking, such as open-ended and behavioral-based questions and how to record results from the interview

  • What shouldn't be asked during the interview process

  • It allows candidates to understand how the company really works. Getting the feel they are not being sold is important to retention

If you are not training your staff in conducting interviews, providing them information on the company or interview questions that are relevant to them, you are at best wasting their time and at worst opening yourself up to legal issues!
